Part of running a successful online marketing strategy is engaging on Twitter. The only problem is, not everyone is a talkative extrovert that can create witty tweets. Some of us quite folk are a little lost when it comes to conversing on the internet. The idea of engaging to a complete stranger is little daunting. How do I know? Well, I’m one of them. Here’s a quick guide to making the task of engaging on Twitter a little easier for the Introvert.
#1: Start with the right tools
The right software is a necessity when it comes to participating in the right conversation. My tool of choice is Hootsuite. They have a free application for starters. Hootsuite can create multiple streams based on keyword searches or hashtags to narrow down the tweets to a conversation that are easier for you to participate in. For example, if you’re a cat lover then create a stream for ‘cat’ mentions. If you really know about mountain biking then create a stream for ‘#mountainbikes’.
#2: Focus on what you know
For the introvert, its hard to find a reason to tweet or engage in a conversation. A quick tip is to find a topic that comes easy to you and find those conversations. Chances are that if you know a topic really well, then finding a reason to engage is easy. Once you’ve figured that out, then start the conversation. Use Hootsuite to create streams to see who’s talking about the topics that you like.
#3: Block off time to engage
This is a very big tip. Many times, the introvert will find excuses not to tweet. Well, a quick secret to the success of this strategy is to block off some time to focus on tweeting. Whether it be scheduling tweets or engaging with people, you will find success by carving out at least 15 minutes of your day only on Twitter. Minimal engagement is better than no engagement. You will find out very quickly how much of a conversation you can start with just 15 minutes a day.
